Woodwinds

Here is a whimsical duet I wrote for flute and oboe.

A play for two

A Horizon with Turns, a piece I wrote for two oboes, horn, two trumpets (one doubles on piccolo trumpet), alto saxophone, tenor trombone, bass trombone.

I was so impressed when a classmate brought a clarinet to class – I must have been about ten or eleven years old. I really enjoyed the timbre, and when I decided I had to get some orchestra experience, this is the instrument I reached for. I took lessons for a couple of months, and then I just went for it. I made a piece in the electronic music studio, which I called Clarinet at Sunrise.

I experimented with piano tuning for a while, and wrote this piece while a student, for piano with a special tuning, tuba with electronic real-time modification, E-flat clarinet, and contrabass. I had the privilege of working with Joseph Jensen, who sadly passed away a couple of years ago. His tuba playing was so inspiring.

Something About Love, featuring Reagan Brough (contrabass), Ruth Eldredge (piano), Joseph Jensen (tuba and electronics), and Dane Skabelund (E-flat clarinet)

This is Electricity-dance, from my capstone project, “The Exchange” featuring two clarinets, violin, and cello.
